College So Far
It’s been a while since
I’ve written a blog post and I apologize for that. This may sound like a dumb
thing to say, but college is a lot busier than I thought it would be. Between
classes, school work, and golf I barely have anytime to do anything that I want
to do. So, I figured I would try to get a new blog post in since I’m pretty much
all caught up on my homework… or a little more caught up on my work than I normally
am (haha). For today’s post I wanted to write a little bit about what my
experience in college has been so far. I’m almost done with my fourth week of
classes and it has honestly flown by. It feels like just yesterday I was
stressed about making my dorm room look perfect while I was moving in. But a
lot of things have happened in the past four weeks and I’ve learned and figured
out some things that I wanted to share on here:
Living with someone you don’t know in a
very small space is kind of weird. But
you will get used to it. It was very strange living with someone because for
one I had my own room at home, and for two I had never met my roommate before
the day we moved in. Not only did I have to share a tiny space with someone,
but it was someone I knew nothing about. Does she want everything to be
perfectly tidy? Does she wake up at 4 in the morning? After a couple of days,
it got a lot better. We start to get to know each other more and started to
learn each other’s patterns and the way we like things to be in the room.
It’s not easy to eat healthy. I was doing pretty well for the first
week, and then I started getting really tired of eating a salad with no meat
every day. There are so many things to choose from in the cafeteria, and normally
the things that look the best and smell the best is the thing that is the least
healthy for you. Just remember to eat that stuff in moderation. I know the
plain salads don’t look good compared to the cheeseburger and tater tots, but
you can’t eat those every day. You need the good nutrients that come from a
salad or from the chicken and vegetables, so you can work hard and do well in
your classes. But also, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t eat healthy every day
or you grab one too many cookies from the dessert station.
Join groups. Whether those groups be clubs, sports
teams, or life groups, you will meet so many people and be able to grow more
friendships. I joined a few groups and clubs and I’ve already met so many
people that I probably wouldn’t have if I hadn’t joined. I went to the first
meeting of a Christian book study in my residence hall last night and I’m so
excited to keep going. There were so many awesome girls who seem so strong in
their faith and I can’t wait to get to know each of them more.
Remember to make time for God. This can be really hard because you are
so overwhelmed with the work load of your classes but spending time with the
Lord will help you so much. If I don’t spend time with Him daily I find myself
becoming very stressed. Take a break from all your school work and give all
your stress and worries to God. He loves you and will always be there to listen
to your problems and to guide you. Your relationship with Him should be your priority,
even before your schoolwork. There’s always time in your day, you just have to
make it. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through Instagram one more time, open
your Bible and spend that time with the One who loves you more than anything.
That is all for this post,
but I plan on (trying) to get a post up at least once a week. I feel like I’m
finally settled in and have a routine down, so I will have more time to write. I
hope you enjoyed this and hopefully you will hear from me next week!
