Book Review No. 1
I have been reading SO much lately, and by that I mean like two to three books a week. There’s just something about reading that is so calming and relaxing, and I love how you can be a part of a whole new world for three-hundred pages or so. Today, I have put together a list of some of my favorite books, and a little bit about each of them.
#1 → The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
Lo Blacklock, a journalist who works for a travel magazine in England, is given the assignment of staying on a small luxury cruise for a week. They voyage is all that she wanted it to be and more, until she witnesses what she thinks is a woman being thrown overboard, but all of the passengers are still accounted for on the ship, so the crew carries on as if nothing happened.
I just finished this book yesterday, and it is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read. In a lot of thrillers, you can kind of predict what it is going to happen in the end, but that was not the case for this one. It kept me guessing and surprised all the way up to the last page. I could not put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time you’re reading it.
#2 → A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Jamie Sullivan, the very religious daughter of the town’s Baptist minister, was the last girl Landon Carter ever thought he would fall in love with. She carried her Bible around with her everyday, took care of her father after her mother had died, and helped out at a nearby orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out, and Landon never thought of it either, until she became his date to the homecoming dance.
I love every book by Nicholas Sparks that I’ve read, but this one has to be my favorite. Even though I knew how it ended, I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. It made me smile, laugh, and cry (a lot). You will love this book if you love a good love story, and if you love a book that can make you feel every emotion all at once.
#3 → Girl Last Seen by Nina Laurin
This is the story of two missing girls, thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw went missing after school one day, and the narrator, Laine Moreno, was kidnapped thirteen years ago, and has been looking at the faces of the girls on missing posters, and when she sees the face of young Olivia, Laine knows that she’s the one who replaced her.
This wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but I still loved it. It continued to surprise me throughout the entire thing, and I loved every turn it took. I definitely recommend this one if you want a thrilling and suspenseful read.
#4 → The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Rachel takes the same train to work every morning. She knows that it will stop at the same signal everyday, and each time she watches the same row of houses, specifically one. She calls the owners “Jess and Jason,” and their life seems perfect, until one day she sees something shocking, and she gets a chance to become a part of the lives of the two people she feels as if she knows, but has only watched from afar.
This book was really good and kept me guessing the whole time. It took a lot of twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting. I definitely recommend this book.
#5 → One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Emma quits her job in Massachusetts and moves back home, trying to put her life back together. Years after Jesse goes missing, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and begins to fall in love again. She believes she’s been given a second chance at happiness. This all changes when Jesse is found, alive, and still madly in love with Emma. She now has to figure out who she is and what she wants, without hurting those she loves.
Oh my. This book was so good. I’ve never read anything like it. All I wanted to do was read and find out what happened next and who Emma chose. It was a very sweet book, with two great love stories, and it showed you that despite what you’ve gone through, you can be happy again.
#6 → The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
After thirty years, the marriage of Wilson Lewis and his wife, the daughter of Noah and Allie Calhoun (of Sparks’ novel The Notebook), has lost all of its romance. Desperate to win back his wife’s heart, Wilson must figure out how to make Jane fall in love with him all over again. But with the memories of his in-laws’ fifty-year love affair as his guide, he struggles to find his way back into the heart of the woman he loves.
I know I said earlier that A Walk to Remember was my favorite Nicholas Sparks novel, but this one has to be a close second. Reading about Wilson trying to win back the love of Jane was so sweet, and it had a very big surprise at the end that I absolutely loved. If you love love, you need to read this book!
And that concludes my first book review. I plan to do a lot more of these, so stay tuned. Thanks for reading!
