good is evil & evil is good

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" -Isaiah 5:20

We're currently living in a time of so much intolerance and backwardness. Whenever something happens that doesn't agree with the left, they just cancel it. They wanted to cancel Paw Patrol because it paints police in a good light, Aunt Jemimah because apparently it's racist, Gone with the Wind because Scarlett had a black maid, the whole entire police force because of shootings of unarmed black men even though the majority of them were justified and weren't even about race, videos on social media that support the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat the virus, and people who don't agree with their political views even when they have good and logical reasons for their views. But instead of focusing on cancelling things that in no way will solve any world problem, why don't we focus on the evil things that are actually happening right now. Just cancelling a show because it shows a woman having a black maid does not solve slavery, especially when that kind of slavery doesn't happen in this country anymore. Instead of shaming white people for their ancestors having slaves, something that we have no control over and can all agree isn't right, why don't we all look at the giant child slavery and human trafficking business that is right in front of our eyes.

If cancel culture is going to continue, why don't we start cancelling things that will actually make a difference to this world if they're gone.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have shown in the past few weeks that their censoring abilities are very effective when it comes to videos that don't go along with liberal ideologies. They see the coronavirus posts and delete them within minutes. I follow a girl on instagram who has a farm and posted stories of their pig giving birth and it got taken down within a couple hours. There was even a video on facebook a few weeks ago of a black boy, probably about four years old, who got so excited when the police drove by, but that was also censored. It not only irritates me that these things are taken down in the first place, nothing is wrong with any of these things- we live in a free country and should be able to learn about hydroxychloroquine and choose if we want to use it or not, pigs giving birth is a natural thing and if your child is too young to see that then they shouldn't be on social media in the first place, and there's literally nothing wrong with the adorable video of the little black boy who obviously adores the police, other than just that: a black boy loves the police and the police did nothing to harm him. But it also irritates me that there is so much worse on social media that should be censored way before these things are, but it's still completely out there for anyone to see. So why don't we take those very efficient censoring abilities and cancel the things that really need to be cancelled. Cancel the millions of pedophile and child pornography accounts and posts. Cancel pornography websites that aid in this giant business, create false realities, and cause the sexualization of women. Cancel welfare that gives extra money to women with no husband, encouraging her to raise her children on her own, causing them to grow up with no father and have a higher chance of becoming active in drugs and crime. Cancel the profane rap music that so much of the black community listens to that mostly talks about immoral things like one night stands, drinking and drugs,  and that probably contributes to their disproportionately high crime rates. Cancel the idea that police and school choice are bad things. Cancel the defunding of the police that has only led to more crime in the past few months. And cancel the shaming of conservative Christian women and black people.

Isaiah 5:20 that I shared earlier- "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!"- really describes the current world we live in. The commentary for that verse in my ESV Study Bible says, "Evildoers can be so blinded in their moral judgment that their evaluations of good and evil are the exact opposite of God's true perspective," and that could not be any more true for what we are currently dealing with. You're told that you hate women if you are pro-life. You're called uneducated if you think there are only two genders or disagree that pedophilia isn't a sexual preference. You're called racist if you don't agree with Black Lives Matter. You're told that you hate all gay people if you don't think gay marriage aligns with God's idea of marriage, or that you hate transgender people if you use the wrong pronoun for them. You're called racist, homophobic, and sexist if you support Donald Trump even though he's done more for those groups of people in the past four years than a lot of other politicians have their entire career. You're called selfish if you don't think white privilege exists, and ignorant if you think most of the unarmed shootings were justified because they were resisting arrest and trying to hurt or kill the officer, or if you bring up that it also happens to white people. Everything is just so backwards anymore and it's honestly scary. There's a clear line between good and evil, but anymore it seems as though people put the two on the opposite side of the line, just as Isaiah said.

What is clearly evil is considered good, and what is clearly good is considered evil and cancelled.

We always need to be in God's word, but that is especially true now. We need to stop letting the news and the media tell us what is good and what truth is, because they are part of this world, and if we, as Christians, agree with the world, odds are we aren't believing the truth. I don't know about you, but I want nothing to do with this world, and if we are letting the world guide our decisions and form our opinions for us, then we have become part of it. We need to look at these issues with a Biblical lens in order to form opinions of them that reflect the Truth. His Word is True not the word of the celebrity you follow or the news reporter you love to watch. This world will continue to get worse and worse, and more backwards by the minute until we start looking at it through the eyes of God. He is the only one who will give true justice and will speak the Truth, so let's listen to Him instead of our emotions and the people of this cruel and disgusting world.

Let's start cancelling things that reflect evil instead of His goodness, not the other way around.
