Book Review No. 3
I haven’t put together a book list in a while, so I thought
that was what I would do today. The one bad thing about being in school was that
I didn’t have much time to read. By the time I was done with my school work for
the day the last thing I wanted to do was read something else, even if it was a
book that I had been wanting to read. So once summer break came I started
reading a ton of books. I’ve probably already read almost ten books and I still
have a ton on my list to read the rest of the summer.
One /// The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery
by Ian Morgan Cron
My friends
and I have recently become kind of obsessed with the enneagram. A blogger I
follow said she read this book and loved it, so I figured I would give it a
try. Needless to say, I absolutely loved it too. It was so insightful, and I
learned so much, but also had a lot of fun with it at the same time. There was
a chapter for each enneagram type and it went into detail about how each type
thinks, how they were as children and in relationships, their wings, and how to
transform to a better version of yourself if you are that type. I was worried I
would only want to read my own number then just neglect reading the other eight
chapters, but I was enjoying learning about each type that that wasn’t the case
at all. There is a second book called “The Path Between Us” which is about each
enneagram in relationships and I’ll definitely be reading that one soon!
Two /// Counter Culture by David Platt
I got this
book a few months ago and had been looking forward to reading it since then. It
was also a really good one. It went through about eight different situations
that we are faced with or see in the world today, like abortion, sexual
immorality, sex slavery, marriage, and more, and looked at the situation in a
biblical perspective using scripture to back up how we should be acting when it
comes to those things, and also what our opinions should be about those topics.
I highly recommend this book!
Three /// Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
Jack and Grace
are the perfect couple. He has the money and the looks, and she has the class and
the elegance. But some things just don’t add up. Why are they never apart? How
does she stay so thin when they are always throwing elaborate parties? And why
are there bars on one of the bedroom windows?
This was such
a good book and I could not put it down. It’s one of those books that you say
you’ll read one more chapter and then find yourself still reading it two hours
later. It kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat the whole time. I
definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thrilling page-turner.
Four /// The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
Amber is
tired of feeling invisible and always blending into the background. She wants
to be more like Daphne Parrish, a blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess, not to
mention the wife of Jackson Parrish, one of the wealthiest and best-looking men
in the area. Amber devises a plan that will allow her to enter the lives of the
Parrish family, becoming Daphne’s closest friend, and eventually a close friend
of Jackson himself. But a dark secret from her past is surfaced and Amber’s
plan begins to take a turn for the worst.
This was
also a book that I couldn’t put down. There were so many twists and turns that I
didn’t see coming, which in my opinion makes a good book great. I also would
definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers.
Five /// To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
This book takes
us through life in the southern town of Maycomb in the point of view of young
Jean Louise, “Scout,” Finch. Her life goes from the normal adventures of a
young girl in the 1930s to the life of a daughter of a white attorney defending
the life of a black man accused of raping the daughter of a white family who is
anything less than respectable and classy. I recommend this one to anyone who
loves a good classic.
